Burgers for dinner are best made at home, when they can be made hot and fresh.  These Easy Skillet Pizza Burgers with Traditional Italian Sauce bring two takeout favorites together, so you know everyone will love them!

Ingredients

  • 1  pound ground beef
  • 1 jar (24 ounces) Prego® Traditional Italian Sauce
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
  • 4 slices or 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 4 Pepperidge Farm® Farmhouse™ Hearty White Buns
  • 1/2 cup thinly sliced pepperoni (optional)

Instructions

  • Tips

    • For garlic bread buns, heat the oven to 400°F.  Place the buns on a baking sheet.  Brush the cut sides of the buns with a mixture of 2 tablespoons melted butter, 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder and 1/4 teaspoon dried parsley or oregano leaves.  Bake for 10 minutes or until golden brown.
    • For Pepperoni Pizza Burgers, top the mozzarella on each burger with pepperoni slices.
  • Step 1

Thoroughly mix the beef, 1/2 cup sauce, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder and oregano in a large bowl. Season with salt and pepper.  Shape the mixture firmly into 4 (1/2-inch thick) burgers.

  • Step 2

Heat a 10-inch skillet over medium-high heat. Add the burgers and cook until well browned on both sides (to prevent sticking- make sure the skillet is hot before adding the burgers). Pour off any fat.

  • Step 3

Stir the remaining sauce in the skillet. Reduce the heat to low. Cover and cook for 5 minutes or until the burgers are done. Top the burgers with the mozzarella cheese and heat until the cheese is melted.  Top with the pepperoni, if desired.  Serve the burgers on the buns with the sauce on the side for dipping.
